Accommodation

Accommodation for up to 8 guest is in shared guesthouse apartments on The Civita Institute grounds is included with your tuition for DesignMashup 2023. Any remaining accommodations will be provided by DesignMashup within the village of Civita di Bagnoregio. All shared apartments, have a private bathroom (WC/shower) and are furnished with comfortable period furniture. Bed linens and towels are provided. You will also enjoy full access to the courtyard, garden, and terrace overlooking the extraordinary valley surrounding the hill town.

Private accommodation is available for an additional fee to those traveling as a couple or who prefer separate private accommodation. The number of private accommodations available is very limited and will be arranged on a first-come, first-served basis. Please enquire via email if private accommodation is requested and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Meals

Each day in Civita begins with an included breakfast of fresh cornetti, cheese, muesli, juices, coffee and tea. A simple and healthy lunch is provided but if you choose there is a choice of exceptional trattoria in Civita however unless noted these meals are not included. On certain evenings, as noted in your schedule, we have communal meals. They generally consist of salads, a starter and main course plus a dessert, accompanied by wine and water, juices, coffee and tea. Our planned communal meals will not only satisfy your nutritional needs but also provide a great opportunity to share. When the weather permits we will dine in the garden in front of La Sala Grande. Indoor dining is available for times of inclement weather.

Your packing list

You will need working clothes, solid shoes, a warm pullover and maybe a raincoat. The climate of Milan and Civita di Bagnoregio in October is typical early fall weather and may be chilly at night. Do not forget to bring your personal first-aid kit, which should include your choice of OTC pain reliever, your prescription medication, spray/lotion for insect bites, gastro intestinal remedies and allergy medication. Please be aware that the nearest pharmacy is in the village of Bagnoregio and can only be reached by foot. Don’t forget to bring some Euros in cash for extra drinks, items you wish to buy at shops, etc.

Responsibility

Initial registration indicates agreement with all terms and conditions as stated in this brochure.
DesignMashup reserves the right to make any curriculum or itinerary changes whenever, in its sole judgment, conditions warrant.
DesignMashup shall not be liable, directly or indirectly, for any injury, death or damage for any reason whatsoever, including but not limited to war, acts of God, weather, strike, detention, delay, airline or other travel-related circumstances. DesignMashup also reserves the right to accept or refuse any person as a course participant.
No refund is applicable if a participant is asked to leave.
The DesignMashup is not responsible for any belongings damaged, lost or left behind by participants.

Important Information

Deposit a Euro 900 non-refundable deposit per person is required at time of registration with balance due no later than 90 days before the start of the course. The school reserves the right to cancel the booking if the balance is not paid 90 days before the course starts.

Cancellations and Refunds

All bank charges must be included in your payment if you make a bank transfer. Your course is guaranteed once the deposit has been received. For clients coming from Canada, payment must be with a money order in US dollars.

DesignMashup reserves the right to cancel any course for any reason. If a course is cancelled, all monies will be refunded and such refund will release DesignMashup from any liability.

In case you are cancelling: In order to cancel your registration, you must send written notification. Monies paid by you will be refunded less the initial non refundable deposit and a €500 cancellation fee determined as of the date DesignMashup receives your written notice. Cancellation and Refund fees are: 90 – 75 days prior to course date, monies can be refunded less the initial deposit and an administration fee of €500. Cancellation less than 75 days prior to course date results in 100% of the amount is not refundable. We HIGHLY recommend trip insurance.

What languages are spoken at the school?

Our programs are all taught in US English. We also speak Italian, if needed.

General information

INCLUDED FOR EACH PARTICIPANT:

MILANO Experience: Opening Night Aperitivo + Lecture, 3-day Milan Metro Pass, all noted Milan museum entrances and guided tours, Design District and design showroom tours, hosted breakfasts, lunches or dinners as noted, Last Evening Aperitivo.
Roundtrip: Frecciarossa class
train from Milan’s Central Station to Orvieto (change in Rome), Transfer from
Orvieto train station to Civita di Bagnoregio.
CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO WORKSHOP: all participants receive a one-year membership in the Civita Institute. Included: lodging at the Civita Institute, (with exceptions as noted below), all workshop and lecture fees, all tools and materials.
Daily breakfast while at the Civita Institute, specific meals as noted (beverage excluded), transfers to Civita di Banoregio and special bus excursions to Orvieto.
Civita Institute Membership: support an excellent educational nonprofit in the heart of old Italy to preserve its way of life, its impact on current and future generations and save this 3000-year-old town. Members get access to the facilities and houses in Civita di Bagnoregio, the Zarina-Heywood Library with its significant Civita Collection, the courtyard, the vegetable garden and the terrace overlooking the EU-protected valley, use of research materials in the Zarina- Heywood Library, acknowledgement in the Civita Institute Newsletter, eligibility to apply for Civita Institute Fellowships (with no additional fee) and opportunities for involvement in Civita Institute activities.

NOT INCLUDED/EXTRA:

Travel partner: Milano experience, Civita Workshop, roundtrip airfare and/or roundtrip travel to Milan, Italy. Lodging in Milan, transit transfers, taxis, meals and beverages are not included for participants’ travel partners.
MILANO Experience: roundtrip airfare and/or roundtrip travel to Milan, Italy. Lodging in Milan, transit transfers, taxis, meals and beverages unless noted.
CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO WORKSHOP: Lodging, meals, beverages, rail transport and transfers are not included for participants’ travel partners.
Civita Institute Membership: participants’ partners may choose to join the Civita Institute at a cost of €75.00 per year.
